We are going to be playing the Biltmore on Tuesday September the 14th. To open the night we’ve asked four of our favorite local artists to preform and discuss a couple of their songs. This will include performances by : Shaunn Watt, Dustin Cole, Chris-A-Riffic, and Johnny Wakeham. Following the writers round The Beckon Call will play a full set. We’ve been working on a lot of new material and looking forward to a nice, intimate evening with you all.

Finally, two years after its completion The Beckon Call has been released. I am relieved, nervous, and excited all at the same time. The amount of help, and support I have received along the way is hard for me to wrap my head around, let alone put into a list. I am so fortunate to live my life surrounded by such talented, and inspiring individuals. Thank you to everyone who helped me turn these ten little songs into something I can share with the world.

Cultch Curator in Residence, Cris Derksen brings a diverse and exciting series of shows to The Cultch this spring

The Cultch’s Curators in Residence Program is a new initiative that offers space in the newly-built VanCity Culture Lab to young, emerging professional artists in Vancouver for creation, experimentation and performance. Cris Derksen is the Curator in Residence for April, May and June.

Her first offering, on April 25th, will use the intimacy of the VanCity Culture lab to its full effect, pairing two of Vancouver’s lushest indie bands, Lightning Dust and Christopher Smith and the Beckon Call, with a string quartet. Derksen and local composer Lucas Schuller will share the duties of arranging Lightning Dust and Christopher Smith and the Beckon Call’s songs for the quartet, accentuating the understated beauty of the bands’ oeuvre.
